Life for Isabel has been a constant struggle since her parents abandoned her at the age of nine. She was left in the hands of her grandfather and young uncle, Evan Jones. It was around this time that she began to experience nightmares and soon she was plagued with visions of burning and suffering. Isabel kept the hallucinations to herself, despite how horrifying they were, for years because she didn’t know how her relatives would react. Her entire world seemed to go black after a family friend sexually assaulted her when she was thirteen. The dark imagery that surrounded her seemed to take on a life of its own and forced her to cover up what the man had done to her. All the while she continued to keep the visions a secret as they grew aggressively more violent. Without the assault being resolved she became more withdrawn and a hatred for people, especially men, swelled up inside of her.
For three more years she kept the fiery images to herself until one day she just couldn’t take it anymore and ran to her uncle for support. She thought that he’d be understanding but instead he sought medical attention. After being treated with high dosages of medication without success it was ultimately decided that she needed to go to a psychiatric hospital for depression and schizophrenia. Isabel realizes now that her uncle was only doing what he thought was best but at the time his actions garnered a lot of resentment from the young girl. She spent a year in the hospital before being released for “improved behavior” and managed to fool everyone into thinking that she no longer had visions. The experience further alienated her from the rest of her peers and she spent the last year and a half of school friendless and trying to catch up on all the work she couldn’t do during her stay in the hospital.
While she tried to make her life as stress free as possible it proved to be a difficult task. Upon being released she rekindled a friendship with Gen Monroe. Their friendship blossomed into a romance but it was soon crushed when the other girl chose Jack Simmons over her. Isabel was heartbroken and furious over the situation and ended their friendship. After months of sulking she was able to move on from that aspect of her life but soon she was faced with another challenge. Her uncle decided to run for mayor and surprisingly to all, so did his best friend. Isabel couldn’t stomach the thought of the very man who had hurt her running the town. She found herself unable to focus on anything other than the election. Eventually it all became so overbearing that it sparked one of the most terrifying hallucinations she had ever experienced and she knew then that she had to expose the truth.
Despite how their relationship had ended, Isabel turned to Gen for help. She needed her support so that she could go to the police. She still had feelings for the girl but she knew that it was in the past and being friends was better than being nothing at all. It wasn’t long before she was told that due to lack of evidence the man who had abused her could not be punished. The case was tossed to the side. This upset Isabel greatly and she realized that if anything was going to be done that she needed to go to her uncle. As much as she had wanted to handle everything like an adult it was apparent that she needed to be taken care of. It was one of the hardest things she ever had to do but she finally broke down and told her uncle everything that had happened. Evan was able to pull some strings at the police department and it lead to Ryan being forced to put his name on the sex offenders list.
It wasn’t enough, nothing could ever be enough, but it was a start and Isabel knew that Ryan’s life would never be the same in Renata again. Everyone would know what he had done. Isabel did not want to stick around to see the town turn against him though. In the beginning of the year, with the help of her grandfather, she had applied to Smith College in Massachusetts and upon acceptance she decided that she would be leaving. The decision was easy to make because she had never wanted to stay in the town forever. There were too many dark memories surrounding her and she knew that if she wanted to make it anywhere in life that she would have to get out. Her abandonment issues caused her to be filled with guilt over leaving her loved ones behind but she hoped that they would understand why she had to go. Isabel would return to them but she would never call Renata her home again.
Hello and Happy Friday (or Saturday) for everyone in the game. I am pleased to present to you the first Biweekly Challenge for this game. For the first challenge, I decided to have you guys do something simple, but pivotal. With the first column, you’re stating who your character is. However, with the latter columns, you’re filling out the backbone of the character. You’re filling out the seals and cracks he or she may or may not have. For some of you, this might be very simple, but for some of you, you might have to dig a little deeper.
Like I said in the last major mod post, this is optional. While this is a good way for me to see who’s participating in the game or not, this is mainly for you and your character’s benefit. This is to help further any potential character development. As explained before, new challenges will be posted every two weeks. So if you miss this one, you have no need to worry.
The information that you will fill out if you choose to do the challenge is underneath the read-more.
Happy writing!
